What is the best strategy to playing texas hold'em if I am an amatuer playing with experienced players?

I am at a work conference with people I just met and they are playing poker. I havent played too many times. These guys know the real details of the game. Any tips?

If you are just starting out then play only strong hands like A-A, K-K, Q-Q, J-J, A-K, A-Q, A-J, K-Q suited, and some other starting hands like 9-10 suited, j-10, and so on. Also play these hands from stong position. That means the better your position the weaker your hands can be. And if your in bad position, then you have to have stronger cards to play. When you are in good position you get to see what everyone else does before you have to put any chips into the pot, this gives you infromation about the other players hands. Seeing how you will miss the flop more often then not, playing from a stong position gives you a good read on the hand. Also undersatnd that poker hands in hold em have no absoulute value at all, in one spot i might raise, and in another pot with the same hand i might fold because there is a lot of action in front of me.

With small pairs i would just limp in and try and flop a set. Never slow play a big hand pre-flop, with a-k, a-a, k-k, and q-q, always re-raise pre flop. Re-rasing and using stop and go plays, prob bets, contnuation bets, and squeeze plays are the way to go. Hands like k-9, q-10, and q-j are way over rated and should bev played very carefully, you can get into kicker troble with these hands so it is best to muck them. Also if your chips fall to below 10 times the blind you should start getting very aggresive, because this is your panic point. Aggrestion wins poker games, but have a reason to make a bet, I'm betting because i think he's weak, or because i'm semi-bluffing. good luck..
